Update 08-16-26
Alright guys,
I just finished the first part of Book Six of Song of the Ellydian—The Knight Wolf. And damn, it feels so good to be writing this book. Fuck, I’m so ready to see where this thing starts turning toward the end. No spoilers, obviously. I hate that shit. But we’re getting deep into the lore of the Ellydian now, and it’s been a blast. Soren, Seph, and Kael are reunited, and the story is already starting to pull me along in that way only this series does.
I’m currently at 14k words out of a possible 110k.
I kinda try to release about one book a year. I just wrapped up a big project that’s currently with my editor. She really liked it, which is always a relief. I still love writing the words “The End” way more than all the stuff that comes after, lol. So while that one’s in its final polishing phase and another big project is launching, I get to just write this book. And I’m loving getting back into my morning writing routine before work.
I’m leaving the plotting a little open-ended on this one. Honestly, I probably always do. I’ll have a rough plan at the beginning, and then somewhere in the middle I stop looking at the notes altogether. Hybrid plotter/pantser through and through. These characters are already starting to tell me what the hell is going on and where we’re headed next.
As for inspiration, there’s no shortage right now. House of the Dragon Season 3 knocked my socks off. I’ve been playing last year’s Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and the storytelling in that game is excellent. I’ve also been doing a lot of drawing for illustrations for my books, and a friend has been coloring them. Maybe I’ll share some of those here soon once it’s officially announced.
Life’s not perfect. It never is. But I’m really grateful to have writing—something that takes me to another world and lets me unleash the creativity. It almost always leaves me in a better mood by the end of the day.
More soon.
Cheers,
C.K.
